Intervention Assessment

An intervention seems drastic. How do I know?

When a loved one is suffering from an addiction it can be a harsh reality to face. It is easy to remain in denial that your loved one needs help.  If you are still not sure that an intervention is necessary or even wise, remember that you have visited this site for a reason. It is important to be honest with yourself about the changes in your loved one.


Below is a list of behaviors and actions that are common among those struggling with addiction. Please take a moment to review this list. If the behavior listed parallels the behavior of your loved one, then please do not hesitate and give us a call.

  • Abrupt changes in personality, attitude and emotional stability
  • Repeatedly fails to honor financial responsibilities
  • Dramatic disregard for self-care and hygiene
  • Drugs and/or paraphernalia
  • Violent, self-harming or suicidal statements
  • Reckless in behavior (driving, drinking, spending, associations)
  • Lacks remorse or feels justified to mistreat or hurt others
  • Frequent displays of temper or anger
  • Unstable or intense relationships characterized by extremes or idealizations or devaluation
  • Rapidly shifting mood that seems unstable
  • Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment by others
  • Reads hidden demeaning or threatening meanings into benign remarks or events

  • Easily slighted or quick to react with anger or to counter attack

  • Strange emotional responses to situations, topics, or purpose of discussions
  • Every growing layers of secrecy
